APA Awards

I am very excited to share this image won third place in the Portrait category of the APA awards this year!

This was part of a shoot with Anthony of Fetching Feathers, who trained my dog, Tybee. We were racing the sunset to catch all these pigeons from his coop and get set up for the shot. What you don't see is Anthony's assistant trainer lying in the brush with a box of birds, trying to get them all to fly out! It took about six plates of the birds flying out in waves to make this image.

I love this shot because it was the perfect mix of a premeditated idea and serendipity. I knew I wanted this shot of Anthony with birds flying all around him, but I had no control over the sky or how the birds would fly out of their box, in the end, it all came together perfectly and is one of my favorite portraits I have shot so far!

Be sure to check out all the other winners from the competition! There is some truly incredible work in there. AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTISTS INC
